Heaphy Bus Route Map to Golden Bay & West Coast

Mondays (from mid November to April)
Nelson to Brown Hut (via Marahau and all towns en-route); Brown hut to Nelson. Abel Tasman pick up Wainui Bay and drop off and pick up Marahau to Nelson.


Wednesdays (from mid November to end of April )
Nelson to Brown Hut (via Marahau and all towns en-route); Brown hut to Nelson. Abel Tasman pick up Wainui Bay and drop off and pick up Marahau to Nelson.


Daily (from 26th December to 10th January)
Nelson to Brown Hut (via Marahau and all towns en-route); Brown hut to Nelson. Abel Tasman pick up Wainui Bay and drop off and pick up Marahau to Nelson.


Sunday (from Mid/late November to end of April)
Nelson to Karamea and Kohaihai shelter (leaving plenty of time to walk to Heaphy hut). Stops at Stops at Lyell, Westport, Seddonville and Wangapeka track Little Wanganui. Return Kohaihai Shelter to Nelson . Return Kohaihai Shelter to Nelson arrive evening at Nelson I-site before 8pm.


Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday starting December 27th till 10th January
Nelson to Karamea and Kohaihai shelter (leaving plenty of time to walk to Heaphy hut). Stops at Lyell, Westport, Seddonville and Wangapeka track Little Wanganui. Return Kohaihai Shelter to Nelson arrive evening at Nelson I-site before 8pm.

For those that have a car and wish to continue down the West coast or back to Christchurch/ Dunedin, can leave their vehicle at Kohaihai and then jump on the Sunday/Thursday bus to Nelson or Mapua, and then catch the Monday bus to Brown hut. This will leave trampers with flexible exit dates and times.
